Entangled deer rescued

Today (Monday June 10th) a young roe deer wandered into the allotments behind Neddy's Close and became tangled up in garden netting. She was seen charging around with the netting trailing behind her.

Eventually she came down to the Happy Return woodland. Still very distressed, she was thrashing about and barking gruffly as she tried to free herself. Jane (Stevens) immediately came to the rescue armed with a pair of scissors.

Jane followed the deer into the undergrowth of head-high stinging nettles. As Jane reached the deer, she was able to cut the netting and release the animal.

The deer ran off into the thick of the woodland barking as she went. Jane emerged from the nettle jungle pleased to have been able to help this beautiful wild animal.

The lesson for us all here is that it is not only hedgehogs that get tangled up in garden netting, especially when it is left lying about.

PS: The deer in the photo is most likely the same one, photographed here in October last year.
